University of Birmingham 4 Droitwich Spa 1
DROITWICH suffered the wrath of last season's Midland Combination Division Two champions on Saturday.
Spa were no match for a University of Birmingham, which was denied a place in Division One last season because their ground was not up to scratch.
Stuart James scored Spa's only goal of the game.
Manager Tom Goss said: "Birmingham are the best side in the league and they are going to win it by a mile."
Droitwich have two home games in order to bounce back over the weekend.
Spa take on Coton Green on Saturday, August 27 (2.45pm kick off) and Bartley Green two days later (5.45pm kick off).
l Droitwich's reserves also suffered a heavy opening day defeat in Division Three when they were beaten 4-0 by Coventry Sphinx's second string.
