DROITWICH continued their preparations for the coming season with a useful workout at home to Hereford on Saturday.

Spa ran out five-tries-to-one winners at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground.

The match was split into four 20-minute periods - allowing director of rugby Julian Bailey and player/coach Nick Tisdale to run the rule over the entire squad.

Bailey felt there was a host of positives to take out of the friendly clash.

He said: "Our fitness levels looked very good.

"Even when it was late in the game the players looked in decent shape.

"We looked quite sharp considering this was our first pre-season game."

Droitwich were up against an under strength Hereford side and at one stage in the game were playing uncontested scrums.

Bailey said: "That was a shame because we do need to work on our scrums.

"But in other departments we looked very good.

"We had lots of width on the wing and that bodes well for the coming season."

Droitwich continue their preparations for the Midlands Division Four West (South) tomorrow night when they play Old Silhillians in a training game at home (Thursday, 7.30pm start).

Coach Tisdale is likely to give all the first squad a chance to improve their fitness in a repeat of Saturday's format.

Droitwich then go to county rivals Chaddesley Corbett on Saturday, August 27 (3pm start).

Bailey said: "The first team will start to take shape against Chaddesley Corbett.

The closer we get to the start of the season the closer we will get to our start fifteen."
