Sutton Coldfield Town 271-9 Bromsgrove 176 all out

Bromsgrove lost by 95 runs

RELEGATION battling Bromsgrove were blown away by Sutton all rounder Tim Groenwald in the Birmingham and District League Division One on Saturday.

The Boars, eager for a win to pull them away from the bottom two, were shot down by Groenwald.

He smashed a powerful century to hamper Bromsgrove's efforts and then took four wickets, as the Boars suffered an all too familiar batting collapse.

Defeat means that Bromsgrove are back in the bottom two and have five matches to save themselves from relegation.

Captain Nick Davies won the toss and decided to bowl at Sutton Coldfield.

It was seemed to be the correct decision as Bromsgrove's bowlers kept Sutton's order in check.

Nick Husbands (4-74) dismissed Michael Randall (13) and the captain bowled opener Richard Dandy (15).

Husbands had Christopher Munn (19) caught by Tom Hill, while Mark Evenson removed Jonathan Ship (12) lbw as Sutton collapsed to 86-4.

However, Groenwald's century and Dan Davis' 73 sparked Sutton's resurgence with a 127 run partnership.

Mark Evenson caught Davis off Husband's delivery to end the partnership, while Kish Patel dismissed Groenwald, but the damage had been done, as Sutton declared on 271.

With a target of 272 for victory Bromsgrove's out of form batting order were given a mountain to climb. However, after a shaky start they battled hard.

Groenwall dismissed openers Nick Edwards (18) and Davies (26) to leave the Boars on 49-2.

Evenson (55) and Nick Reade (40) forged a 65 run partnership.

Paul Greethan ended Bromsgrove's resistance when he had Reade caught by Dandy, while William Speer bowled Evenson.

The rest of Bromsgrove's order collapsed, with Groenwald removing Richard Barnes (0) and Paul Duffy (8).

Mark Bagley (2), Patel (7), Hill (0) and Husbands (0) added little resistance.
