REDDITCH Arrows finished the season on a high with 50-12 victory at Andover Thrashers.

The Arrows may have been expecting a win against the bottom club but the home side surprised Redditch by opening up an early 12-0 lead.

The opening score came from a wayward pass that was returned 89 yards before the Thrashers doubled their lead from their first offensive move.

But the Arrows immediately hit back when Phil Dayus returned the kick-off 75 yards into the end zone.

Fumbles followed as the game went through a scrappy period and this ended with quarter-back Richard Wilde levelling the scores from eight yards. The two-point PAT gave the Arrows the lead for the first time.

The Arrows had now put the early mistakes behind them and were in full flow. Solid defending kept out the home side while Dave Mills touched down to keep the scoreboard progressing.

Another Mills 10-yard run saw the Arrows score just before half-time as they opened up a 28-12 lead.

A two- point safety increased the margin and when the Arrows got the ball back from the kick-off, Alan Harris went in from two yards, Mills converting the two-point PAT.

In the fourth quarter Mills scored his third touchdown on the day to complete 1,000 yards for the season - a fine achievement in a difficult campaign.

The scoring was completed when Martin Reed went in from one yard for his first ever score for the club.

The match summed up the Arrows season, one moment producing excellent football only to then make a string of mistakes.

The Arrows now take a break until they start training again in January. Anyone looking to take up the sport should contact Chris Halford on 459661 or visit www.redditcharrows.com.
