COMPLAINTS have been pouring in to police about youths riding mini motorbikes, motor-cross and scrambler bikes off-road across Redditch.
Town police say a growing number of bikes are being ridden illegally on public pathways in Greenlands, Lodge Park, Oakenshaw, Lakeside and Woodrow.
Complaints have also been received about bikes in Arrow Valley Park and Crabbs Cross woods.
Redditch south sector's Pc Matthew Hunt said a number of bike owners seemed unaware they needed a licence and insurance to ride on the road and riding off-road requires the permission of the landowner.
He added: "Police have the power to seize bikes which are causing alarm, distress or annoyance to others.
"We don't want to be killjoys, but we're concerned that as well as disturbing local residents, riders may be putting themselves in considerable danger."
Earlier this month Redditch Council's community safety portfolio holder, councillor Bill Hartnett, met a number of the town's police officers to discuss methods of dealing with the illegal bikes.
The meeting was prompted by numerous complaints from Church Hill residents about the danger and noise created by the bikes on the area's footpaths and roads.
Police are advising Redditch motorcyclists to join a recognised club in order to ride legally and safely.
