POPULAR poet and performer Pam Ayres will be paying a visit to Bromsgrove.

Her career was launched in November 1975 when she appeared on ITV talent show, Opportunity Knocks. Since then Pam Ayres has appeared on virtually every major TV show in the UK, has had her own TV series, and filmed Christmas specials in Hong Kong and Canada.

In October 1996, Pam performed part of her stage show at the Royal Gala Charity Reception at St James' Palace, attended by HM The Queen. She has also published six books and recorded seven albums, having silver, gold, and platinum records from sales in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

She will now perform at Bromsgrove's Artrix on Thursday September 8. The School Drive venue will host the event at 7.30pm and help her mark 30 years as an entertainer.

Her one-woman show has taken her to Ireland, the Middle East, Hong Kong, France, Kenya, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

In June 2004, Pam Ayres was awarded an MBE for services to Literature and Entertainment in the Queen's Birthday Honours. She is also one of the only people still alive with a poem in the top ten of the nations '100 Favourite Comic Poems' for her work 'I Wish I'd Looked After me Teeth.'
