A sparkling weekend of jazz to suit all tastes starts today as Pershore hosts its 4th annual Jazz Festival for the Community.

As befits any community festival, entry to some events will be free, offering an unbeatable opportunity to catch some of the best musicians and bands on the British jazz scene, including The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Garry Allcock's Midlands All Stars Big Band and The Alan Gresty-Brian White Ragtimers.

These exciting bands will present an evening performances at Number 8, Pershore's Centre for The Arts this Thursday, Saturday and Sunday nights September, 1, 2 and 4.

At the same venue this Friday night, the Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Ian Hattersley will be on stage with The Antique Six Jazzband in a programme of jazz and big band music entitled A Lifetime in Jazz featuring the talents of musicians aged 14 to 71 years. This event is kindly sponsored by Vale Pianos.

The town centre will echo to the sound of the Dutch Lewis Parade Band from 10.30 until noon on Saturday morning, with Parade Marshal "Trevor T" leading the way. A lunchtime session at The Plough will feature a visiting band from Wales Round the Horn returning by popular demand. This session starts at noon.

The Sunday programme kicks off at midday with Ellingtonia, an eight piece band led by trumpet player Mike Beaumont in the auditorium at Number 8, while those who prefer a lunchtime beer can repair to The Plough where Brasstissimo will serenade the lunchtime customers.
