recycling glass is being made easier than ever for people living in South Worcestershire as a new scheme is launched.
A green box will be appearing on doorsteps over the next few weeks for residents to store their glass bottles and jars ready to be taken away for recycling each fortnight.
Households covered by the scheme should look out for a letter which will be followed by a box along with full instructions on what to do and when to put it out for collection.
The scheme will start during the autumn and will cover most urban areas and larger villages and is expected to increase recycling by more than 1000 tonnes a year.
Wychavon District Council's waste management officer, Mark Edwards, said: "Glass makes up about seven per cent of the average bin but can be recycled indefinitely, saving resources and energy."
He added: "We hope the new recycling box will encourage more people to recycle a higher percentage of their glass."
