WORCESTER Wolves triumphed 104-90 in their National Basketball League Division One clash against North West London.

A full house at University College Worcester welcomed Lord Faulkner of Worcester who presented a cheque on behalf of the Sport and the Arts Foundation for £58,800 towards the cost of the electronic seating, recently installed at the Wolves home.

Mike Foster MP and Dorma Urwin, Principal at UCW, accompanied Lord Faulkner in the ceremony.

Wolves sent out a starting five of Josh Cooprider, Rick Solvason, Nick Vinsonneau, Colin Chiverton and Ben Livingston.

The game opened at breathtaking pace and as in previous games it was Josh Cooprider who took the attacking initiative for the home team.

The talented American hit three three point attempts in the opening four minutes.

Nick Vinsonneau who had been struggling with his form in recent games also made inroads into the bigger London defensive players.

The visitors top scorer Oluwagawe soon responded for North West London and the early indications were that this was going to be a high scoring game.

Ben Livingston made an enterprising start to the game, yet was withdrawn by Paul Gerald to come into the Wolves line-up to add height to the defence as the Wolves were struggling to contain their taller opponents.

As ever Gerald set the tone with some brilliant individual defensive play while also scoring three quick baskets from close range.

Cooprider was then rested as the game grew towards half time, having scored a valuable 14 points.

When Livingston re-entered the game he responded with a long range three point attempt.

Chiverton scored on the buzzer to send the Wolves in at half time with a 52-47 lead.

The packed audience gave the team a standing ovation as they left the court, small wonder that the team love playing at home so much.

The second half saw the visitors start much stronger with Oluwagawe punishing the Wolves defence.

Rick Solvason responded for the home side with some slick shooting and this prompted Vinsonneau and Cooprider who also found their range.

Going into the final quarter the Worcester side still led by five points 76-71 yet it was the team from the capital who were beginning to look more threatening.

Baskets were exchanged at both ends of the court with Solvason, Cooprider and Chiverton scoring steadily for the Wolves.

However, a two minute spell that saw Worcester clinch the game involved point guard Ben Livingston who scored one basket on the fast break, hit a long range three point attempt and then steal the ball and go on to score an open lay-up.

Cooprider was fouled in the closing minutes on two occasions and the shooting guard scored all four of his free shots.

The final score saw a 104-90 win for Wolves who had been beaten twice heavily by the London side last season.

Cooprider 24 points and Chiverton 23 points top scored for the Wolves.

After the game Director of Operations Mick Donovan was understandably delighted with the win.

He said: "We played with tremendous spirit and in the second half worked well defensively. Once again the atmosphere created by the spectators was excellent."

Wolves are at home again on saturday against early season league leaders Team BatH (7pm).
