DEREK Digger has been presented with an achievement award in recognition of his service to Wyre Forest and Worcestershire chess.
The Stourport player's commitment and dedication to the sport over 30 years has included the holding of many offices.
He was honorary secretary of Kidderminster Chess Club for four years and captained various teams in league combat.
Digger was instrumental in organising trips to Kidderminster's twin town, Husum, in Germany, and at county level he has been the grading officer for more than 20 years, ensuring all competitive players have their figures published in the Midlands and British Chess Federation lists.
Apart from Digger's Kidderminster Chess Club duties, he also plays for Halesowen in the Worcestershire, and Dudley and District Leagues.
