BEWDLEY firsts secured a victory and a winning draw during a productive Bank Holiday home double header in Division One.

On Saturday they beat Droitwich by four wickets after putting the visitors into bat and restricting them to 192-9.

In a Herculean effort, Ted Baylis bowled unchanged from one end, returning figures of 5-97 from his 25 over spell.

Jono Boult was yet again impressive, finishing with 3-65 from his 18 overs. Simon Smith conceded just one bye, standing in as wicketkeeper for the injured Cyril Ramsay.

In reply Bewdley lost Boult (23) to a poor lofted shot, soon followed by Paul Beard.

Matt Boden and Robbie Combes put on 101 for the third wicket before Boden (40) fell to a poor lbw decision.

Combes was bowled for an excellent 78 in the penultimate over, leaving Martin Flack to score the winning runs with eight balls to spare.

On Monday , Bewdley took 15 points from their winning draw against Stourbridge.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Bewdley made it to 192-9 from their 50 overs.

Boden (33) and Paul Beard (41) batted well to lay the foundations with Mark Bennett and Smith adding 19 and 23 respectively before Andy Halkon (18 not out) and Baylis (16 not out) saved a lower order collapse.

In reply, Stourbridge began steadily, but Bewdley's slow bowlers again dominated.

Boult claimed 6-60 off 21 overs with Boden taking 1-61 off 14 overs to stifle the Stourbridge innings and restricy them to 183-9 for the winning draw.

l BEWDLEY seconds achieved an eight-wicket victory at Droitwich on Saturday in the 2nd XI Division One.

In the absence of David Jones, Dean Wilkes won the toss and invited the hosts to bat.

Droitwich's top order were ripped out by the superb bowling of Simon Higgs (3-13) then Scott fowler took 4-29 with a superb display of seam bowling.

With contributions from Ben Jones (1-18), Mark Hudson (1-1), Aiden Laverty (1-4), Droitwich were dismissed for just 70.

Needing 71, Bewdley lost Lloyd Oldnall (13), and Richie Harris (4), before a 35-run partnership between Matt Cowdrey (32no) and Wilkes (14no) saw Bewdley to a comprehensive victory.

Unfortunately there was a different story on Monday, when Bewdley visited Stourbridge and were dismissed for just 71, with only Jones (16), Hudson (14no) and Matt Cowdrey (12) getting into double figures.

The Stourbridge reply only lasted 14 overs, with Higgs taking the solitary wicket to complete a miserable day for Bewdley.
