BARNARDS Green Singles secured 15 points from this winning draw in their quest for WCL division five honours.

The match will long be remembered for a magnificent Tim Clarke century, but Chainwire were able to hang out for the draw.

Asked to make first use of the Chainwire track, the Green lost openers Doughty and Ratcliffe quickly and when Curtis retired hurt, the score was 26-2.

Freeman joined Tim Clarke and the pair slowly built a platform for their side. Freeman was content to nudge the single whilst Clarke started to open up with some powerful hitting down the ground.

The pair saw off the opening attack and then Clarke showed the full array of his strokes. The pair took the score through 100 and then 200 as Clarke reached a magnificent century with yet another straight drilled four. Freeman continued to play around Clarke ensuring the single as Clarke took his side to maximum batting points.

His innings came to an end when caught at deep square for 139, but he and Freeman had added 202 runs for their side. Beavan (14no) and Freeman (46no) took the score to 251 at the close.

Chainwire opened up aggressively and scored at the required rate, forcing Ratcliffe into an early change.

Simon Clarke removed Stewart for 29 but the this did little to stem the flow as Tovey took a liking to the bowling and Chainwire were well placed at 111-1 at drinks. Doughty was then introduced to the attack and immediately removed Tovey for 35. This brought a mini-collapse as Rich Brown snared two quick wickets. Youngster Scullion took a fine catch and then dismissed Beasley and Chainwire settled for the draw.

Brookes returned to remove James for 68 as Chainwire chased bonus points but the Green had to settle for the winning draw.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Barnards Green Singles play their final league match at home to Belbroughton (1pm).
