MALVERN first XI entertained Harbourne in the WCL division two and came away with a winning draw after a superb team performance.

MALVERN v HARBOURNE

Anthony Arnold and Mark Baugh opened up and produced a superb 97-run partnership before Arnold was dismissed for a classy 42.

Ollie Bendall came to the wicket and immediately produced some glorious shots all round the ground. Baugh fell for a fine innings of 89 (12 4s) as Malvern looked to increase the tempo.

Luke Halion continued his tremendous recent form with a stylish 37, while Jeremy Lee and Steve Carter joined in the fun with two massive sixes apiece, as Malvern closed on an excellent 259.

Harbourne found the pace of Lee and Tom Poole a little disconcerting and the run rate was actually behind what was needed. Captain Halion's inventive field placings and shrewd bowling brought about continual success but Harbourne were happy with the losing draw. Carter, Arnold, Laws and Cox all bowled well.

Poole bowled a fine spell of hostile bowling and Lee's return of one wicket was scant consolation for a brilliant effort.

Halion's direct hit, aiming at one stump from 30 yards, was the highlight in the field.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Malvern are at home to Kidderminster.
