IT appears to me that whoever thought up this nonsense of replacing 46 fire control rooms with nine regional control centres must have brains like scrambled eggs.

We are not yet fully in the EU, nor are we likely to be so if most of we British get our way. It is just an excuse to make up the regions which the EU dictates. Also, the new system only needs a power cut and no emergency calls can get the where they are needed.

Yes, I appreciate technology is a wonderful thing, but it needs people to operate it. And if they cannot be contacted, people will die.
