'POLICE give lollies to drunks' sounded like a joke. As did last week's equally baffling Worcester News headline concerning Sainsbury's scheme to reward local baseball-caps for not nicking trolleys by giving them sweets.

Unless, of course, this is an insidious way of punishing them?

Lollies and sweets are high in sugar; perhaps the intention is to give these offenders toothache, thus driving them into the arms of our (now expensive since they've all quit the NHS) dentists.
