CONSERVATIVE MP Bill Wiggin says he was delighted to see a red rosette - on his prize-winning cow.

Mr Wiggin, MP for the Leominster constituency, was given a rough ride by his normally docile Hereford cow but still won a first prize at the Monmouth Show.

The Bosbury-born cow, Bosa 1 Loveday, impressed the judges casting their eyes over a large showing in the Hereford category.

Mr Wiggin describes Loveday as a "bit temperamental" and admits to losing control of the nervous cow during the show.

"She flicked me about fifteen feet through the air into a pile of muck and straw. Perhaps the sight of a politician landing in the manure cheered people up," he said.

Mr Wiggin said he will think twice about showing her in future but added she produces good calves who do not inherit her nervous disposition.

He attributed his success to the expertise of stockman Charlotte Ashworth and Gerald Blandford, of Temple Court Farm, Bosbury, where Loveday was bred.
