INJURIES are beginning to bite at Edgar Street -- but Graham Turner admits there is plenty in the Hereford United locker to dampen the spirits of new boys Altrincham.

The Bulls were without crocked quartet Tamika Mkandawire, Guy Ipoua, Simon Travis and Jamie Pitman as they battled to a 1-0 Conference win at Tamworth last Monday.

Key centre-half Mkandawire (knee) and striker Ipoua (hamstring) picked up injuries before the trip and remain doubtful for tomorrow's noon showdown against the promoted Robins.

Defender Ryan Green is also ruled out for three matches following his sending-off at the Lamb Ground.

Turner failed to secure a short-term loan before Wednesday's transfer deadline, but the director of football is confident there is enough squad depth to register United's first back-to-back triumphs of the campaign.

"It could be that we have four players out injured again," said Turner.

"We will have to make another change with Ryan Green suspended for three games. But we've got quite a big squad and we can just about cope with that.

"Simon Travis is still a few weeks away from returning to the first-team, but Jamie Pitman is close. He will play in a reserve match against Weymouth next week."

Turner was delighted with the response of his side at Tamworth following a poor 2-0 home defeat to Grays Athletic two days earlier.

The Bulls picked up three points with a 19th-minute winning goal from summer signing Alex Jeannin.

"We were poor last Saturday, so the response at Tamworth was excellent," said Turner. "We tried to play with a lot more energy. There was a lot more urgency to our play.

"It was a good header from Alex, something you are always looking for from your wing-backs. They should try and pose a threat whenever they can.

"It has been an inconsistent start to the season, but we will be working hard to improve on that."

Despite being ranked among the relegation favourites at the start of the season, Graham Heathcote's Altrincham are punching above their weight.

Back-to-back 2-0 victories over Aldershot and Morecambe turned many heads over the Bank Holiday period and Turner will not under-estimate their opponents.

Turner added: "They were two very big wins for Altrincham over the Bank Holiday. It proved that they are a very capable side at this level. We must approach this game in the right manner."
