A ROYAL pigeon has gone missing from a loft in Birtsmorton.
The Queen's pigeon was due to take part in the Royal Pigeon Association's One Loft Race on September 11 but disappeared two months ago.
Peter Bryant, the association's general manager, said yesterday there was still no sign of the bird, one of several missing.
"It's not being afforded any special seeking out treatment," he said. "It's one of those things that happens to racing pigeons from time to time and you have to put it down to experience."
Mr Bryant denied rumours that the pigeon had been eaten by a sparrowhawk, saying there was no evidence of that.
Final preparations are underway for the race, in which 350 racing pigeons will fly from St Malo to the Birtsmorton loft run by father and son fanciers Tim and Jeremy Davies.
Although the Queen's pigeon has flown away, a bird owned by former England football captain, Gerry Francis should be taking part.
