REGULARS at a Malvern pub felt sleepy after raising a record-breaking amount with a charity bed push on Saturday.

A total of £1,700 will go to the County Air Ambulance after the team from the New Inn, Lower Howsell Road, completed the eight-hour push around Malvern's streets and pubs.

Landlord John Horsley said he was amazed by this year's total as the event raised £800 in its first year and £1,200 last year.

"When we raised £1,200 we thought we'd never get anything like that again," he said. "We just can't believe it."

A punctured pushchair tyre didn't stop little Molly Woodward, four, from taking part. Her father, Gary, simply called for someone to collect the buggy and put her on the bed.

Molly replaced Lucy Richardson, who sat on the bed for the first part of the push.

The New Inn had raised £4,000 for the County Air Ambulance this year before the bed push started, through regular raffles. Last year it raised a total of £10,000 for the charity.
