Colour and music filled Upton at the Water Festival last weekend, despite fears that this year's event could be the last one.

Visitors flocked to the event, which was opened by Henry Sandon, of the Antiques Roadshow.

A carnival parade, led by Upton Youth Band, a parade of illuminated boats and firework display attracted visitors on Saturday.

Jackie Surtees, of the festival's organising committee, said lower High Street, both banks of the riverside and the bridge were packed with people during the fireworks.

The Pepperpot Players entertained crowds on Sunday and boat races were held throughout the event. Canine companions joined the fun at a dog show on Monday.

Though the festival ran smoothly, organisers fear it may fold, along with the tourism and trade association, unless help from traders is found.

The association's former chairman, Bill Dovey, of High Street shop Gifted, gave up the post after retiring. Temporary chairman Sue Walker plans to stand down in the near future.

Festival organiser Barry Kitchin urged traders to attend the association's annual meeting at the function room at Bridge House on Monday, September 12, at 7.30pm.
