BRILLIANT bobbies will be celebrated at a ceremony to pay tribute to the hard work of West Mercia Police.

Chief Constable Paul West is hosting the event on Monday, and nominees - based in Worcester, Droitwich, Mal-vern, Evesham, Stourport-on- Severn, Kidderminster, Led-bury and Hereford - have been invited.

The names of the winners of awards will be kept under the chief constable's hat until the ceremony.

The awards are made every year to recognise officers whose work has made a significant difference to the communities they serve.

Mr Paul West said: "There are many dedicated staff working for the benefit of communities across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire. It is wonderful to be able to recognise some of their achievements through the presentation of these awards. I am proud that we will be recognising acts of significant professionalism and commitment by members of the force.

"This is an opportunity to show our staff and the communities in which they live and work how much pride we take in the service they provide."

It is the first time all nominees will be able to attend, along with their families, and there are plans to develop the awards further next year.

Paul Deneen, chairman of West Mercia Police Authority, said: "The news that crime continues to fall and detection has increased across the force area is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of members of staff.

"These awards are an excellent opportunity to publicly acknowledge the achievements of a number of the quality people working every day to make West Mercia a safe place in which to live and work.
