ARROW Distributors, in Woodbury Lane, Norton, Worcester, has been given an award for its environmental efforts.

The prestigious Green Apple Award will be presented at a ceremony at The House of Commons in November.

The event is a showcase of some of the greenest companies, councils, communities and countries.

Simon Smith, health, safety and training officer at Arrow Distributors, said: "We work hard to meet environmental targets and we often try to go one step further which is why I think we have won an award."

The firm, which employs 135 people and has an annual turnover of £28m, is working to complete a three-year environmental plan.

Mr Smith added: "We have introduced several new systems to be both environmentally friendly and cost effective.

"We now recycle all our paper, cardboard, plastic and polystyrene to cut down on what we send to landfill.

"Also, we are now much more conscious of saving energy by doing things such as turning off lights and equipment when they are not in use.

"Our lorries now use LPG and we have introduced bulk storage."

The Green Apple Award is now in its 11th year and aims to celebrate the achievement of contenders who have reached new levels of environmental success.

It is organised by the Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist and non-profit environment group.
