SUNDAY'S Prudden Road Surfacing League's annual Pairs tournament was staged in glorious weather at Stratford LTC.

In Pool A of the Shield competition, the host club's B team's top duo of Rob Slatter and Callum Bailey stamped their authority early with emphatic 7-0 victories over Studley and Claverdon and a 6-1 defeat of Tanworth.

The other contenders from this pool were Shipston's Adam Moran and Ross Tug-wood who beat Tanworth 6-1, Studley 6-1 and Claverdon 4-3 but they were just pipped 4-3 by Stratford for top spot.

In Pool B, Inkberrow's Alex Woodbridge and Tom Trott were the clear winners beating Stratford C and Henley 5-2 and Bidford 6-1 to qualify for the final against Stratford B.

The Plate competition saw Alcester's Seb Brookhouse and Gareth Price edge out Mike Baker and Jim Forsyth (Inkberrow B) to top Pool A, while Evesham's Ray Foster-Mor-ison and Chris Francis easily won Pool B.

The Cup event saw the closest of the three competitions with four teams only separated by an odd point ahead of the final matches.

With only the top two teams from the eight-team group qualifying for the final, Shipston B's Roy and Cameron Malik topped the group.

Only Bidford B could mathematically catch Snitterfield's Sam and Steve Righton as they began their final match against Harbury with only 21 points. Against the odds, Bidford's father and son Andrew and Tristan Gretton won 6-1 to progress through to the final by virtue of beating Snitterfield 5-2 earlier in the competition.

All three finals were closer than the scorelines suggested, but convincing victories were obtained by Slatter and Bailey 6-2, Foster-Morison and Francis 6-1 and the Grettons who reversed their early group match result to defeat Shipston B 6-1.
