DONATIONS totalling £8,000 were made to the Independent Health Concern Party over a three-month period, figures released by the Electoral Commission reveal.

The period covered - from April 1 to June 30 this year - included May's General Election, when the party's candidate, Dr Richard Taylor, was returned as MP for Wyre Forest.

Elections to Worcestershire County Council, in which the party fielded candidates, were held on the same day.

Health Concern's figures are included on a list of 17 political parties who have made quarterly returns to the Electoral Commission, providing details of cash and non-cash donations received.

Nationally, the parties listed received a combined total of £13,906,706 during the quarter. The biggest recipients were the Conservatives, who had £6,071,637 pumped into their coffers, while Labour received £5,803,413. Liberal Democrats were given £1,192,191.

Donations to the Green Party, which campaigns on a national level, unlike Wyre Forest-focused Health Concern, amounted to £13,007. The British National Party received £2,435 and the Christian People's Alliance had £6,400.
