THE Arden club at Defford hosted an Open event for the Comet class of single-handed dinghies.
The opening race saw the ten starters cleanly away on a longish course. Ian Coppen-hall (Hunts SC) led the fleet to the line followed by Smashie Bennet from Staunton Harold and clubmate and namesake Alan.
The second race started with four boats over the line, while Coppenhall was forced to restart from the back of the fleet.
However, he managed to claw his way through the fleet into third place behind the Bennets with Alan in top spot.
The third race had only two early starters and it was Coppenhall who took line and overall honours with the Bennets taking the minor placings.
Arden is a thriving friendly club that offers competitive racing, training for beginners and improvers as well as facilities for cruising and watching.
