TWO vultures who have yet to earn their wings will be among attractions during the two-day Kidderminster Horticultural Society Show.

Although the vultures - Nip and Tuck - are still too nervous to take part in flying displays in front of large crowds, visitors to the show on Saturday and Sunday will have an opportunity to get a close-up look at them.

The show is being held in the grounds of Hurrans Garden Centre, West Hagley and will be officially opened by Wyre Forest MP, Dr Richard Taylor.

Judging in more than 150 show classes takes place on Saturday morning. Displays will include fruit, vegetables, flowers and wine. There are also categories for novices and children.

A demonstration of floral art will be given by Jackie Harris and Hurrans' gardening expert, broadcaster, Reg Moule, will participate in a Q&A session.

The 18-month-old African vultures, which are three feet tall with eight-and-a-half feet wingspans, live in Hurrans' falconry centre.

Owner, John Akerman, said: "With their reputation, it may seem a bit strange that the vultures are frightened but this is quite normal as they need to get used to their surroundings."

Visitors to the horticultural show, which opens at 11am on Saturday, will be able to see Nip and Tuck in their enclosure and watch them being fed in the afternoon.

There will be a flying display of other birds of prey during the weekend.
