FURNACE Mill Fishery's match record was smashed by Stourport angler Paul Cook, who landed an outstanding catch of 214lb 13oz. This easily beat the record set by Chris Senter on July 18, of 205lb 8oz.
The venue was the same - Mucky Meadow Pool - where the Mark's Tackle fisherman used pellet and past to start, but found his old favourite, the white maggot, was the most effective. He caught regularly throughout the Sunday Open, but it was after a heavy shower and short thunderstorm that he caught the most.
Result: Cook (Marks Tackle) 214-13 (peg 54), Kevin Johnson (Marks Tackle) 124-4 (47), Kevin Williams (MCM Meat) 98-12 (38), Keith Johnson (Furnace Mill) 89-6 (43).
Opens are held on Sundays, the draw at 2pm, fishing from 3pm until 8pm. Anyone wishing to fish the open is asked to telephone 01299 266777. For any inquiries check out the website at www.furnacemill.net.
During the week the daughters of fishery managers Ed and Jane Brown caught lots of carp on the Willow. The best fish was landed by 11-year-old Emily Brown, weighing in a 12lb 2oz. Both she and her sister Lois used red and green feed pellets and sinking hookers with a squirt of strawberry.
