PAUL Prince returned to racing in style for Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club when his time of one hour eight minutes 24 seconds helped him finish second overall in the Hereford and District Wheelers 30-mile time trial on the Raglan course on Sunday.

John Callaghan, Kris Doms, Gary Bartram, Joe Rowe and Chris Poole were in action in the League of Veteran Cyclists' La Fleche Waltonne 47-mile road race in Leicestershire, also on Sunday.

Rowe finished third, and in the chasing group Doms finished fifth, with Callaghan safely in the bunch. An early puncture put Bartram out of the race. In the third event Poole came into the chasing group.

Andy Convery put in a superb performance for a top 10 finish in the Ratae RC 25-mile time trial, near Leicester on Sunday, when he finished the tough course in 0-58-58 for ninth place behind the overall winner,

Dave Barnes and junior Pete Banham rode the Wasps 110km road race in south Wales, where Barnes finished 11th and Banham 15th overall.

Karl Davies put in a strong performance on a tough course when he rode the Severn RC 25-mile time trail to finish in 1-03-48, an improvement of 13 minutes on his first attempt.

In the final two rounds of the club competition, Prince won on the Great Witley course in 0-30-12, followed by John Parker in 31-12, and Dave Wood in 31-46.

Other times: Brian Clarke 35-01, Ian Connelly 36-19, Mike Haddon 38-04, Mick Gray 38-19, John Smith 38-29, Chris Edmonds 40-47.

Doms won the final round on the 10-mile Warndon course in 24-07, with Convery 24-09 and Wood 24-41. Other times: Peter Keron 25-39, Davies 25-55, James Smith h29-33, Brian Clarke 26-44, Connelly 27-59, Jonathon Higgins 28-01, George Taylor 29-24, Gray 29-32, Smith 29-33, Edmonds 29-59.

In the tandem race, Chris Morris and Prince rode in preparation for the Duo Normande 2up time trial in France, and finished in 22-16. They were followed by Phil and Ruth Blacker in 23-29, and Alan Griffiths and Sue Middup-Jones 29-07.
