MATTHEW Rowland is continuing to make a name for himself in the world of fencing after climbing the rankings and adding to his trophy collection.
The 16-year-old, who has just left Wolverley High School, recently won the Birmingham Schools senior boys epee under-18s championship.
He followed up that success with the top prize in the Bromsgrove Schools under-18 epee and came second in the foil.
Rowland has recently progressed from the cadets to the junior section and has risen from 57th to 18th in the British rankings for his age.
He has also climbed the open age standings, going from being just inside the top 500 to his current position of 185th.
Rowland is now preparing for the Essex Open later this month.
