KIDDERMINSTER'S junior section are on the lookout for young rugby recruits ahead of the new season.

Interested players from under-sevens to under-17s should attend an open day at the Marlpool Lane club at 10am on Sunday.

The club has impressive facilities including a new club house and three full size pitches.

Players of all abilities and levels of experience are welcome, and should bring along training kit and trainers or rugby boots. Fully trained coaches are provided for each of the age-groups who either train or play matches every Sunday.

KIDDERMINSTER Carolians' Midlands Three West North campaign got off to a stuttering start when they lost 57-13 Wolverhampton.

KCs were never really in the game and only had two Tom Oakes penalties to show for their first half efforts as they trailed 29-6 at the break.

The second half was not much better as Mark James and Nathan Small left the field injured and Wolves continued to score freely.

They did get a second half consolation with Andy Stooksbury crossing and Oakes adding the extras.

Hard work is needed on the training pitch ahead of Saturday's trip to Aston Old Edwardians.

KC's under-strength seconds lost 22-16 to Wolverhampton. Mark Whitard and Mark Spargo scored tries with Ben Mannion and Iain Crockett kicking penalties.

Kidderminster Carolians host Newport in round one of the Powergen Intermediate Cup.

In the Powergen Junior Vase, Cleobury Mortimer travel to Five Ways OE with Chaddesley Corbett entertaining Burntwood.

Stourport visit Bromyard after winning at Wheaton Aston in the preliminary round. The ties take place on Saturday, September 17.

STOURPORT marched into round one of the Powergen Vase with a 38-12 preliminary stage win at Wheaton Aston. Captain Richard Gough's team dominated in hot conditions.

Six tries were scored with Adam Whiting, Richard Dorrell, Matt Willis, Richard Abbott, Steve MacDonald and Owain Butler touching down. Dorrell and Chris Wood kicked four conversions.

Their North Midlands South season starts at Clee Hill on Saturday.

l Stourport seconds also got off to a positive start, winning 37-0 win at Alcester. Led by skipper Stuart Wilson, the front eight outplayed their opponents with the backline using possession creatively.

Chaddesley Corbett

CHADDESLEY Corbett get under way at North Midlands South Two rivals DK Wasps on Saturday with the seconds hosting Malvern thirds.

The club are running three teams this season. Players interested in joining can attend training at their Fox Lane base at 7.30pm on Tuesdays or phone Nigel Evans on 01562 777070 for more details.

Cleobury Mortimer

CLEOBURY Mortimer prepared for their Midlands Four West South campaign with a 28-0 win at Tenbury Wells in their final friendly.

Allan Shields scored two tries. Paul, Hulland, Colin Todd, Tony Heap and Tom Eckersley also touched down. Julian Harding kicked six conversions and a penalty.

Cleobury, who were promoted through the play-offs last season, kick off the new term with a visit to Stourbridge Lions on Saturday.
