PRIMARY schools in Worcester are being targeted as part of a new sports initiative.

Worcester City Council is hoping to score a winning goal with the scheme to introduce a new miniature version of netball to the area.

The drive is part of the All England Netball Association's national campaign to encourage more youngsters to take up 'high fives'.

To show primary school teachers how it is done, there will be a demonstration of the game by Worcester City Netball Club Under 11s this Sunday, September 11.

The event, at 2pm at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, will be followed by a seven-a-side game between the Welsh national side and the Worcestershire county team.

Match tickets cost £1 per adult and 50p per child and can be purchased on the day. Plenty of free car parking will be available.

During the day ex-England netballing player and coach Betty Goalsworthy and chairman of the West Midlands Netball Association Janet Wrighton will be on hand to offer tips and techniques to young netball stars.

Becky Giles, community sports coach from Worcester City Council, said: "The high five version of netball is a game we are keen for Under 11s to play in order to develop their skills.

"We are keen to introduce it in Worcester. We have invited all the local primary school teachers and would encourage them to come along and see us in action."
