Stratford 0, Evesham 5

EVESHAM began the new season in stunning style with a convincing win over their local rivals.

Under the new captaincy of Steve Miller and fielding a side that showed up to six changes from last season, Evesham took their time to find their shape and rhythm.

Indeed, throughout the game, there were times that communication and teamwork left something to be desired, yet when they did play well they played with the usual flair and attacking style that has been a feature of the Vale side.

After coping with early pressure, Evesham began to impose themselves and started to dominate midfield through the excellence of Matt Baumber and Seb Seneque.

Their efforts and the attacking wing play of Miller and Stuart Harris soon provided a number of scoring opportunities and it was the former who netted the opening goal.

It was quickly 2-0 though the persistence from Jon Vickery after Martin Husbands and Baumber combined well in midfield.

A series of short comers provided clearcut chances and Baumber and Seneque showed their ability to be impressive at set-pieces with clinical strikes to give Evesham a four-goal interval cushion.

They could have scored another handful of goals after the restart but it was left to Seneque to extend the advantage from yet another trademark passing move.

At the other end, James Nicholas made a series of excellent saves to ensure that Evesham kept a clean sheet to begin their campaign in style.

Evesham travel to Worcester this weekend for what promises to be a tough match against opposition who still harbours hopes of National League status.

The game takes place at Nun-nery Wood Sports Centre and starts at 1.30pm.
