HANLEY Castle and Upton finished their Crusader Worcestershire County League division four campaign as they had started it, with an excellent win.

TENBURY v HANLEY CASTLE & UPTON

Unfortunately, there has only been one other victory to brighten a disappointing season.

This match was fast bowler Tony Hutchings' last game before leaving the country to set up a diving business. He certainly made a big splash claiming another five-wicket haul taking his season's total to 67 wickets.

The Tenbury wicket has always recently offered the bowlers a good deal of assistance and with the new ball in his hand, Hutchings (5-37) plunged in to make the best use of the conditions.

His fiery mix of yorkers, bouncers and good-length deliveries saw a sorry procession of batsmen heading back to the pavilion. Great support was given by Barton Mathews (0-19), who tied down the other end and some terrific catches, notably by the athletic Simon Rawlings.

Tim Conway (2-28) chipped in with some useful wickets but it was left to the rising spin sensation Ali Naulls (1-0) and Simon Rainsford (1-17) to round off the Tenbury innings. Only the valiant Hunt (27) offered any resistance as the home side closed on 81 all out.

Tenbury's only chance would be to strike early and this they did as Hanley lost three wickets for just 30 runs.

It was then that the steady hand of opener Naulls (18no) and the belligerence of Grant Mathews (30no) took the game beyond Tenbury's limited resources.

Hanley reaching their modest target without further alarm and a well deserved 20 points.
