BARNARDS Green Sunday seconds cantered to an eight-wicket victory over Bewdley at North End Lane in their final league fixture of the season.

On a muggy afternoon, the Green's skipper Marek Wajzer inserted the opposition on another Roy Mayo 'belter'.

The Green's new ball attack of Anshuman and Scullion (1-42) delivered another tight opening spell for their team. Anshuman (2-14) continued his run of good form with the ball, removing both openers cheaply, clean bowling Tristram for a duck and having Brown (5) flamboyantly taken in the covers by Cyril Dean.

Moses, batting at three, anchored the Bewdley innings with a top score of 85. Wickets tumbled regularly at the other end with only Cowdrey (34) reaching double figures. Scullion closed out the innings, partnered by left arm seamer Wajzer (3-17) who produced another useful closing spell, having Moses caught at extra cover by Scullion, and two stumpings by Graham Glendinning accounting for Roseman and Cowdrey. The Bewdley innings finally closed at a very attainable 176-8.

The Green's reply got off to an indifferent start when Sherliker was caught behind first ball.

From then on, Simon Cooke (61) and Chris Hill (79no) were in commanding form, blitzing successive opposition bowlers out of the attack. Both batsmen raced to their half-centuries to much acclaim from the crowd and delighted team mates. With the Green in sight of the finishing line, Cook was finally caught at mid off. Matt Higgs (8no) pulled the curtain down on proceedings, smashing the winning boundary in only the 27th over.
