PHILIP Bushill-Matthews, MEP, has yet again sprung to the defence of the EU (Letters, Tuesday, August 20) so could he explain why the group to which the Conservatives belong in the EU Parliament has, through their leader, stated just last week that the Dutch and French people must be asked again to vote on the EU Constitution.

This is very odd when Conservative Party policy in this country is to oppose this piece of paper. Surely Mr Bushill-Matthews should be pressing his EU leader to demand that the countries which support the Constitution should be asked to vote again. I look forward to his reply.

MARK STARR,

Leigh Sinton.
