Plans for a £270,000 refurbishment of Bosbury Village Hall and grounds have been lodged.

The hall committee submitted its planning application to Hereford-shire Council this week and artist's impressions of the scheme were put on show in the hall.

If all goes to plan, contractors could start in the New Year, 2007, but first money has to be raised.

A total of £15,000 will come from the council and a Lottery application is being prepared. The parish council has provided £700.

Brian Clutterbuck, a member of the hall committee, has made an arrangement with Arts Alive, whereby the cost of showing monthly Flicks in the Sticks films in the hall will be met by Arts Alive, with proceeds going to the refurbishment fund.

A brochure showing all the films to be screened up to Christmas has already been produced.

He said: "Some people are saying, why spend so much money on a refurbishment? But it's a new lease of life for the hall, which dates back to the 70s and has done pretty well for the last 35 years."

One of the main problems is a leaking main roof. That will be re-sheeted in metal and a smaller flat roof will be pitched.

Better heating and lighting will be installed and the hall committee also hopes to buy in new chairs for functions.

The kitchen will be updated and a proper bar area installed. There will also be a new entrance, although the facility already has decent disabled access.

There will be landscaping in the grounds and a 31-car surfaced car park will be created. The present car parking area is unsurfaced.
