THE Malvern United Angling Association's junior cup was contested on the pool at Mathon on Saturday.

With various prizes to fish for, competition was keen. Adam Price was the first angler to land a fish, thus scooping the first fish prize, Adam went on to catch 18 fish in total which also gave him the most fish award.

Josh Seabourne won the cup, courtesy of a nice carp weighing 3-10-0, which also gave him the biggest fish prize.

James Mitchell, who has recently made his mark on the senior scene, took second spot with a hard worked 2-0-0

Brad Hunt came third with 1-0-0

All the competitors caught fish and all walked away with a tackle prize kindly donated by members.

Members contested the Derek Evans Float Only Trophy the following day on the Avon at Birlingham.

Hot, sunny weather and a clear river once again hampered catches but veteran club star Dave Harris used all his experience to winkle out 4-4-0 of small roach, perch and skimmers on the pole and take the coveted trophy.

Second spot went to club treasurer John Shaw with 3-8-0 from peg 2.

In joint third place with 1-8-0 apiece were Neil Humpage and John Barr.

Annual outing

THE next club contest is the John Perks Memorial Trophy, which is combined with the annual outing to Somerset, this year to fish the River Huntspill.

The Huntspill has long been renowned for its large catches of bream, in recent years there has also been an explosion of roach and skimmers giving great sport to all anglers. A coach is being laid on at a cost of £20 per person, to include the day ticket to fish.

A stop for will be made on the way back to Malvern for refreshments. Please contact Mick Perks on 01684 561777 to book a place and for further details.
