TOWN Reserves travelled to last season's division two champions and met a team playing full of confidence, after winning their opening two matches.
PARKFIELD LEISURE 4, MALVERN TOWN RESERVES 2
Malvern included a couple of first teamers who were coming back from injury and despite starting the brighter it was Parkfield who put away virtually all their chances to lead 4-0.
Malvern certainly had their moments as Dan Finnigan fired in from the edge of the box, forcing a superb save from in-form goalie Chris Smith. Lee Tomkins, who was back to his best, was inches away from connecting with a header with the goal at his mercy, and Jamie Thomas was unlucky to see his free-kick deflected inches wide of the goal.
Many teams would have fallen apart being 4-0 down at half-time but, to their credit, Malvern took the game to their hosts in the second-half.
Malvern went close several times before Finnigan crossed to Simon Baker on the far post and he headed powerfully home. With ten minutes left, the ball was cleared to defender Adam Simpson and he unleashed a tremendous shot which swerved on its way to beating the keeper to add some respectability to the score-line.
Town Reserves, sponsored by Laser Civil Engineering, are at home to Bilston Town tomorrow (Saturday).
