Droitwich Spa 23 Old Hales 3

Midlands Division Four West South

DROITWICH'S rebuilding process continued to progress smoothly as the rejuvenated side produced their most impressive performance of the season so far on Saturday.

Spa have been showing signs that they have been slowly improving this season after their relegation blighted last campaign.

That progress was illustrated by a dominant performance by Spa against a solid Old Halesonian's side.

Droitwich started positively and applied pressure to Old Hales.

Paul Sweeney won a lineout and Droitwich drove forward and allowed hooker Dean Goddard to touch down.

Try hungry Spa grabbed a second minutes later when Ben Cotterell found Leon Hopkins and he set up captain Nick Godfrey for a touch down.

Despite a penalty by the home side Droitwich remained n control of the game.

Span continued to take the game to Hales in the second half and Nick Godfrey pounced on an error to launch an attack.

Cotterell burst through two tackles before running 80 metres to score.

Hopkins added his second try of the game, while Matt Blackmore converted it and then scored a penalty.

Despite late pressure from Old Hales Droitwich weathered it comfortably to win the game and dramatically improve their league position.

Victory saw Spa move to third in the Midlands Division Four West (South).

Droitwich are set for a test of their promotion credentials on Saturday when they take on leaders Edwardians at home (3pm start).
