ALVECHURCH manager Shaun Cunnington admits his side will be heading into the great unknown when they take on Wellington in Saturday's FA Vase.

The Herefordshire side currently lie mid-table in the West Midlands League and, on paper, should be easy pickings for the Lye Meadow outfit.

But Cunnington knows the home side will not lack commitment with prize money at stake.

"I don't know a great deal about Wellington but we will have to make sure we match their commitment and spirit," the Church boss said. "There are financial rewards for clubs in the FA Vase and that money is important to a club like ours."

Cunnington's side were without a game on Saturday but the manager still had his players in for a practice match in the morning before heading off on a scouting mission.

Injuries will keep three key players sidelined for the trip to Wellington with Anthony Sutton, Craig Hall and Craig Nicholls ruled out .

But Cunnington is not rushing into bringing in new faces.

"While I'm looking to improve the team, it is important that the players coming in suit the way I want to play football," the manager explained.

"When we have the ball I want my players to pass it around - that is my philosophy on the game."

One new arrival who has already made his mark is midfielder Russell Penn, on loan from Kidderminster Harriers, whose late strike in midweek helped Church to a 2-0 win at high-flying Romulus.
