AN emotional Rod Brown admits the past few days have been his worst since taking over at the Valley Stadium nearly four years ago.

The Redditch United manager quit following Saturday's dire 6-3 defeat at home to Workington but chairman Pat Cremin refused to accept his resignation.

Brown admits he then spent an emotional evening considering his future before deciding to continue in the Valley Stadium hot seat.

"I am a great believer in turning points and maybe this weekend has been just that," he said. "I will have been at the club four years next month and it is the first time that my team has been booed.

"But the thing is, the fans were totally justified. The display was shocking and all I can do is apologise to them."

Reds have managed just two wins in 12 league games this season and have also crashed out of both the FA Cup and Birmingham Senior Cup against teams from lower leagues.

Saturday's defeat was the final straw for the manager who says he is now looking to ring the changes.

"I have brought these players to the club and maybe I have been overly loyal to them in the past. They have let me down badly and it is the lowest I have felt since arriving at the club.

"But I am going to change it, shipping players out and shipping others in - it is as though I am starting at Redditch all over again."

Brown hopes to have young Walsall defender Scott Dann on loan by the weekend and has also made approaches for Moor Green's John Snape, Bromsgrove's Wayne Dyer and Evesham United ace Jermaine Clarke. Newport keeper Nathan Vaughan is another on the wish list.

Reds face a crucial relegation clash on Saturday when they head to Hyde United, the side directly above them in the table.
