CHESS players from Worcestershire will go head to head in a special tournament next month in aid of St Richard's Hospice.

Worcester City Chess Club is staging the Blitz Chess Tournament on Thursday, November 3, at St Stephen's Church Hall in Droitwich Road, Worcester.

Chess clubs from around the area have been invited to take part and organisers are hoping for a great turnout to raise cash for the hospice's work caring for people with cancer and other life-threatening illness.

Worcester City Chess Club chairman Tony Spittle said: "This will be a fun event and a time when chess players can face each other across the chess board and by doing so also support the work of our local hospice.

"Chess players of all abilities are invited to take part."

Entrance to the event, which takes place from 7pm to 10.30pm, costs £3 per person and entry forms are available from Tony Spittle after 5pm on 01905 764952 or on e-mail at tony@spittle7.freeserve.co.uk

St Richard's Hospice is currently based in Rose Hill, Worcester and cares for patients and families living with cancer and other life-threatening illness.

Building work is well under way on the new St Richard's Hospice near County Hall, Worcester, and campaigners are working to raise £300,000 needed to complete the Building Beds Together campaign.

The new hospice will include all the current free services plus 15 urgently needed specialist beds which are not currently available in the area.
