BROADWATERS residents say a road sign on Kidderminster's Stourbridge Road is confusing visitors to the town.

Tony Whittenbury, of Kendlewood Road, believes the signpost, which is located on the approach to the town centre, before the right-hand turning to Sion Hill, is in the wrong place.

He said it was causing confusion for people who did not know the area and were trying to find the centre of Kidderminster.

The sign shows the mini roundabout located at the bottom of Broadwaters Drive and Mr Whittenbury said drivers were mistaking the turning for Sion Hill as the right turning which should be taken at the island for the town centre.

He said: "It is most confusing. All I want to do is get it put right for other people, not so much for myself, as I know the way."

He said he had seen cars towing caravans travel up the road and then come back down again when they realised they had gone the wrong way, adding: "They get halfway up there and then have to turn around and cause chaos getting back on to the road again."

He went on: "It is also causing problems for lorries as they get to the top, realise it's not right and then have to come back down again."

He said it had been there for as long as he could remember and he would like to see the sign moved past the turning for Sion Hill.

Mike Abrahams, who lives on Stourbridge Road, said: "It is just a very poor sign that hasn't been attended to and corrected and is causing traffic problems along the road."

He added: "The sign needs to be corrected to show that Sion Hill is the first exit and the town centre is the second exit, or moved past the turning."

Andy Broom, of the Highways Partnership, said: "We will have a look at it and see what the confusion is.

"If there is cause for concern we will make alterations or, if we feel it is appropriate, we will leave it as it is."
