MALVERN Concert Club welcomes a charismatic Polish quartet for the last of its 2005 events.

The Karol Syzmanowski Quartet, named after the great Polish composer (1882-1937), will appear at the Forum, Malvern Theatres, at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 17.

Syzmanowski's first two quartets, written in 1917, appear on the programme, along with the last completed works of two earlier composers, Haydn's opus 77 no 2 (1799) and Dvorak's opus 105 (1895).

The quartet were founded in their home city of Warsaw in 1995 and six years later joined the New Generation Artists scheme, run by the BBC to give a platform for emerging talent.

Since then, the quartet has performed worldwide, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Perth Festival, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam and Grunewald Hall in Stockholm.

Earlier this year, the quartet was awarded the Karol Syzmanowski Prize, joining a list of winners that includes Britain's Sir Simon Rattle.

The concert is the third in the club's 2005/06 season, which it says has so far been successful both financially and artistically.

Tickets are £14 (£13 concs) from 01684 892277, with a special student rate of £5.
