GRAHAM Turner believes Hereford United's FA Cup success will give his side a much-needed lift ahead of tomorrow's Conference clash with Woking.

The Bulls progressed to the FA Cup second round after negotiating Nationwide South outfit Cambridge City with a 1-0 win.

A home tie against League Two strugglers Stockport County, for whom former United full-back Mark Robinson is a regular starter, is their reward.

It is the latest cup achievement for Hereford, following their progression to the LDV Vans Trophy second round, where they entertain Port Vale.

"It was lovely to still be involved in the FA Cup," said Turner. "The second round draw has given everybody at the club a lift.

"It's a good tie for us, one we can definitely win. We've got home advantage and Stockport are struggling in their division. I don't think there is much difference in the quality in squads. They will not relish coming here.

"We've also got a nice draw in the LDV Vans Trophy. But the most important thing is the league, the bread and butter. We must work hard to improve our league position."

Turner is still without last season's top goalscorer Adam Stansfield, but the former Yeovil striker is striving for fitness.

Stansfield is poised to figure in a reserve game next week in preparation for a first-team return later this month.

Midfielder Stacy Coldicott is no nearer to recovering from a disc injury to his back, while Darren Blewitt has not joined in training after picking up a leg injury in the stalemate at Kidderminster.

Guy Ipoua partnered youngster Andy Williams in attack at Milton Road last week and looks set to continue, with Hereford-born Williams earning a full Conference debut.

The forward duo will strive to improve the Bulls' dire goalscoring record of 17 strikes in 15 league matches this season.

United boast the meanest defence, conceding only 11, but Turner admits the club's problem in attack is yet to be fixed.

Turner added: "We've not conceded many goals and it's always a solid base to go from. But putting the ball in the net is our big problem and that's something we are trying to address.

"The goals may come tomorrow, although Woking are always difficult to beat. They are a well-organised side."

Woking boss Glenn Cockerill sympathised with Hereford's below-par start to the Conference season.

Cockerill said: "They have had an indifferent start by their standards but I don't think that's anything to do with how they're doing.

"I think it's that other teams around them have become better, stronger and are capable of taking points off each other. So it's not a reflection on Hereford, more a reflection on the other teams."

n United's Danny Carey-Bertram and Tamika Mkandawire join up with the England National Game XI squad after tomorrow.

Both could make their national debut when England face Belgium in Favre next Tuesday in the new European Challenge Trophy.
