ON a wet and blustery day, Powick entered this Worcester Sunday division one clash in positive mood, despite missing three regular players.

ST JOHNS 0, POWICK 4

The first move of the match saw 12 passes and a shot on goal from Harvey without St Johns touching the ball. This set the tempo for the opening half-hour of the game and Powick poured forward but were repelled by a stubborn St Johns defence. The opening goal game from neat passing football from the back, with Collard, Hodge and Skilton all involved in helping set Pearson free on the right flank, who fired home from a tight angle. The goal seemed to spur St Johns on and Powick became disjointed, though the tough-tackling Price continued to disrupt St Johns attacks.

The second-half continued as the first had begun and Powick quickly gained the crucial second goal thanks to Gary Henderson's neat finish from his brother Lee's unselfish play.

With St Johns' heads dropping, Henderson doubled his tally and made the game safe for Powick. With ten minutes of the game remaining, Hadley capped an excellent individual performance with a stunning volley from 30 yards to make it 4-0.

The man-of-the-match award went to Steve Hodge.

ARCHDALES 6, POWICK 0

POWICK were comprehensively beaten and outplayed in this County Cup third round fixture by an Archdales side who play their football three leagues higher.

With several key players missing, Powick were on the back foot from the onset and found themselves 2-0 down inside the first 20 minutes.

A fantastic Drinkwater long-range effort almost pulled one goal back and an Abba header from the resulting corner provided the highlights of the first-half.

Just as Powick were starting to get a grip of the game, disaster stuck as a clearance from keeper Hill struck Lewis and the ball rolled agonisingly over the line. On the stroke of half-time, an excellent Abba tackle rebounded off an opposition player to send an Archdales striker through and he made no mistake.

Character was shown in a more competitive second-half, with substitute Dakin making several key tackles. Skilton and the man-of-the- match Henderson were involved in some of Powick's better moves, but in the final analysis, the quality of Archdales shone through.

Having performed well in the last two seasons in the league, this result may well end up as a positive lesson to learn.
