A dog well known in the vicinity of Link Top created considerable diversion the other morning by the attentions it paid to a donkey harmlessly grazing on the Common. The dog evidently thought the donkey was one of his own race and after playing about with its tail, seemed rather surprised that it didn't appreciate the fun, but on the other hand resented it and chased the playful dog off the common. Ledbury Parish Council discarded the proposed motor service between Ledbury and Ross, at a meeting on Friday. There was considerable discussion, during which the proposition was not at all favoured. The chairman proposed, "this council gives its support to the proposed motor service." No seconder was found and the council rose without taking any further steps in the matter. Reducing the distance to 75 miles did nothing to ease the navigation and driving problems of the 18 competitors taking part in the fourth annual night trial organised by RRDE Motor Club last Friday. From Malvern, the route covered parts of Herefordshire and Shropshire, finishing at the Talbot Hotel, Knightwick. In winning the event with a 20 marks penalty for early arrival at one control point, Capt R F C Butler and his crew of three in a Standard 10 never made a navigational error. "It is up to us to take the law into our own hands," declared Mr I C Davies, speaking of the sheep worrying problem, at Friday's meeting of the Ledbury branch of the NFU. "Carry the gun with you. If you get a dog on your land, worrying sheep - don't hesitate - shoot!" Ledbury Reporter, December 9. 1955.

ONE reminder of Malvern's past - the old bandstand in Victoria Park - is soon to disappear from public view. The district council has decided that it is not worth spending £5,000 to renovate the bandstand, now vandalised and badly in need of repair. Instead it will be dismantled and stored, to be rebuilt one day, perhaps, when times have changed. Moved to its present location from Priory Park in the early 1960s it has not been used for many years. Malvern Gazette, December 11, 1980.
