INDUSTRIAL action by British Gas engineers in a dispute over the company's pension scheme was suspended after fresh talks, the company said.

Proposals agreed at discussions between the company and the GMB union will be put to union members, it added. About 6,000 members of the union voted for a series of walkouts over the closure of the company's final salary pension scheme to new entrants and the first strike took place last Monday. A walkout was planned for yesterday.

was cancelled to give peace talks more time but a strike had been due to take place on Wednesday, with more in the New Year, before today's breakthrough.
