"USE it or lose it" is the call to residents from organisers of the town's Farmers Market.

Alcester Chamber of Trade and Commerce (ACTC) is warning the Farmers Market could fold if it does not get more customers.

Chairman Andy Mills said: "The market started off really well in spring this year, thronging with customers from Alcester and further afield, and continued to thrive for several months.

"Recently, though, attendance has fallen to the point that the future of the market could be threatened in 2006."

Held next to the Town Hall on the same site as medieval markets, the Farmers Market takes place on the fourth Friday of every month.

And this year's last market is set for this Friday, offering festive treats to residents and visitors.

Mince pies and mulled wine will be on offer, with stallholders in Christmas costume selling geese, pork, lamb, fresh vegetables, sweet and savoury pies, cheese, cider, apple juice, freshly baked bread and cakes, and bacon and speciality sausages.

But Mr Mills warned the event was under threat by a lack of support from the community.

He added: "In a survey conducted by ACTC in September this year, everyone who was questioned said they would return to the Farmers Market, and 96 per cent said it met their expectations. It will be a real shame if we lose it in the new year through lack of support.

"I urge everyone who wants the market to continue to visit it on Friday and show they care - otherwise it may be too late!"
