I HAVE admired the way John Prescott put away the left/right in-fighting of old Labour to sit at the New Labour Cabinet table and put his views to his party and accept democracy.

Whatever the outcome his outburst over school reforms in the Telegraph, it is not about him being denied his voice within the party framework, it is him declaring himself as a candidate in a future leadership battle.

There is no-one in the party who can replace Tony Blair but someone will emerge with their own style, insight and vision in the future.

The one thing Mr Prescott has now shown me is that he has none of those qualities.
